Golf Vacations South Africa

Luxury Golf Safaris Sun City & George

The tour starts at Pilanesburg Game Reserve, from here you can stay close to big game in the wild and still enjoy golf and entertainment privileges at Sun City. Sun City has South Africa's #1 golf course, extensive entertainment and a 24 hour Casino. Alternatively you can stay at Sun City and visit Pilanesberg.
The second part of the tour is based at George on the southern coast. You need to stay at the luxury Fancourt Golf and Country Club Estate in order to play its three top ten ranked courses. The local George Golf Club is also top ten making this the 'hotspot' of South African Golf.

Typical 7 night Golf Safari South Africa
Sun City, Pilanesburg Game Park and George.

Day 1 Arrive at Johannesburg airport and transfer for short domestic flight to Pilanesberg for Sun City and three nights at Tshukudu Bush Lodge.

Day 2 Play Lost City Golf Course which has some of the most spectacular African views to be had on a golf course. The back nine has five holes played downhill from elevated tees and has been likened to a safari. Non Golfers visit the Game Park.

Day 3 Play Gary Player Country Club. #1 in South Africa. The fairways are generally wide, but are bordered by untended African bushveld, this and the tricky greens constitute the course's main defenses. Non Golfers visit Sun City.

Day 4 Fly from Johannesburg to George and four nights at Fancourt Golf and Country Club Estate, play Fancourt Montagu, a Gary Player design known for, world class conditioning and a setting that takes in mountains, water and wildlife.  The par three signature 17th hole is a long hit over a wide expanse of water to a green quite like the 12th at Augusta National.  Non Golfers at leisure at Fancourt.

Day 5 Play Fancourt Links a course with undulating windswept terrain, and dune-style landscape, a stern test in all weather conditions. Gary Players brief for the Links which opened in 2000 was to produce a course that can achieve a ranking within the world's top 100 by 2005. Non Golfers visit Oudtshoorn and Cango Caves.

Day 6 Play Pezula Golf Course, at Knysna, designed by Ron Fream and David Dale who compared it to Gleneagles in Scotland and Pebble Beach. A terrain of rolling fairways, fynbos and eyebrow bunkers. The three signature holes are  on the cliff top overlooking the ocean.. Non Golfers visit Knysna on the Garden Route.

Day 7 Play Fancourt Outeniqua, named after the mountain range that runs along the famous Garden Route. It is a well conditioned parkland course with rivulets, gardens and the mountain backdrop. Signature hole is the 5th, a short par 4 well protected by water. Non Golfers explore more of the Garden Route.

Day 8 Fly George to Johannesburg airport for flight home. (Option - play George G.C. a.m. if flights permit). George Golf Course has views of the Outeniqua mountains from every hole. The main attraction of this course has always been its natural beauty, enhanced by lavish flora. The last 10 years it has been rated in the top 10 golf courses in South Africa.

Tshukudu Bush Lodge

"Place of the Rhino" offers 6 luxury cottages and 2 standard cabins nestled on an isolated rocky outcrop in the heart of Pilanesberg Game Park, a malaria free wildlife paradise. Each cottage is equipped with everything you could possible need. You will find a safety deposit box, mini bar, hairdryers, books and magazines as well as a tea and coffee facility. Slate floors and the thatched roof keep you cool in the hottest weather, and wood burning fires and hot water bottles keep you warm during cold winter nights. However to relax away from outside pressures there is no radio, TV or telephone and cell phone signal is limited. Here the only sound is the wind and the calls of wild animals. Each cottage has a private balcony offering potential sightings of over 80 species of wild animals, including the Big Five, as well as 360 bird species. The sunken bath in the luxury cottages has its own private view of the waterhole. What a way to relax and to soak in the sights and the sounds of the African bush.

Tshukudu's cuisines are not only out of Africa, it's out of this world. Each dish is lovingly prepared to 5 star standards. A full English brunch prepared to perfection at the end of an early morning game drive; high tea with a savory and sweet selection; sundowners under African skies; a splendid selection of wine provides the ultimate accompaniment to your five course dinner. Overlooking its own waterhole, set in rolling plains that abound with flora and fauna, Tshukudu Lodge allows the visitor a special glimpse of Africa as she was: untouched, unspoilt, unforgettable. A game drive or walk is a must. The rangers share their intimate knowledge of animals and plants, answering questions and pointing out the wonders of the wild kingdom. Still, there are times when you might just like to take it easy, view the game as it visits the waterhole from the privacy of your own balcony or from the comfort of the Nest area. Or just relax in the sun around the sheltered rock pool.
