From Lisbon to the Algarve

If you fly into Lisbon you may chose to spend some time in the area and then drive to The Algarve. There are great golf courses around Lisbon, en route and on The Algarve, Portugal’s southern coast. A popular itinerary is given below. It is not a long drive from Lisbon to the Algarve, time to play some golf on the way or to do some sightseeing, see Sightseeing link in left hand menu.

Typical Itinerary

Day 1	Arrive Lisbon airport, drive to Quinta da Marinha Resort at Cascais. Option to play some golf on the hotels course. It is an open sandy course with spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean and Sintra Mountains. It is a mix of woodland and links holes.

Day 2	Play Oitavos Dunes, it has a cliff-top location and quickly became a permanent fixture on The European Tour. It has many links-like characteristics and It boasts some impressive sand dunes, especially along the middle holes where it plays through a spectacular dunescape. There are gorgeous views of ocean and mountains from practically every hole. (Par 71: 6300 metres)

Day 3	Play Penha Longa Atlantic, a tough challenge, it has played host to numerous competitions including the Portuguese Open. It is an imaginative design from Robert Trent Jones Jr. with numerous hazards and steep hills. (Par 72: 6290 metres)

Day 4	Play Troia Links on route to Vilamoura on the Algarve coast, 4 nights at the Vilamoura Beach Hotel. Troia is a magnificent links course stretching over dunes, cliffs and pinewoods on an isolated peninsula between the ocean and the estuary of the River Sado, It is 28 miles south of Lisbon, near Setubul and ranks high in the European top courses. There are postage stamp greens, tight fairways and seaside holes to remind you of famous courses in Scotland and England. (Par72: 6320 metres).

Day 5	Play Oceanica Old Course Its magnificent layout meanders throughout impressive pinetrees - the principal hazard - over gently undulating natural terrain. Highly rated it has gentle sloping hills with tree-lined fairways, and poses quite a stern test. (Par73: 6254 metres)

Day 6	Play Palmeres Golf Club, it is a mixture of links and inland golf, a course of high quality that blends beach and mountain sceneries. You start out on a difficult dogleg par 4 and soon get into the links, a great expanse of white sand and high dunes. At the sixth you turn inland where the course winds through picturesque almond trees. (Par 71: 6018 metres)

Day 7	Play Oceanica Victoria, the new showpiece at Vilamoura designed by Arnold Palmer. Every care has been taken to preserve the existing wetland, the carob, olive and almond trees, as well as several lakes that provide reservoirs for the course. With 5/6 tees per hole, wide and undulating fairways, extensive water hazards and well positioned bunkers, Victoria Course rewards the ambitious shot-maker. (Par 72: 6560 metres).

Quinta da Marinha is a five star golf resort situated in a beautiful pine forest, overlooking the Atlantic ocean at Cascais on the Estoril coast. It is north of Lisbon (15 miles) and 20 miles from the airport. You have the option of a room or suite in the hotel or a Villa (1 or 2 bedrooms).

There are 5 restaurants, one indoor and 3 outdoor swimming pools, bars at the pools and in the hotel and 24 hour room service.
