 Ashford Castle — is the ultimate Castle hotel in the country, but not as convenient to the major golf courses. The flamboyantly turreted and crenellated castle was built for the Guinness family in 1870, incorporating an earlier 1228 structure. It is situated on the shore of Lough Corrib in 450 forested and flowering acres. The bedrooms and suites are large and sumptuously furnished.
