| Around London are many of England's top Inland courses. To play them you can stay out of the City (Windsor area is ideal), but our example assumes that you want to stay in the vibrant 'West End' of London and travel to the golf courses. This tour is based on 5 nights but it can be adjusted as required and is often a popular 'add on' to other golf tours in England or Scotland. Each venue has two or more excellent courses so there are options for additional rounds each day. Call toll free 1-888-529-2448 to discuss alternative length of stay, golf, transport or accommodation options. |

Golf courses
Sunningdale G.C. is, without doubt, one of the finest inland golf courses in the United Kingdom, it retains a high ranking in courses around the world as a fine example of a heathland course. The experience of the Old Course is fantastic from start to finish. The beautiful heathland setting, together with some demanding elevations and no real weak holes provides some of the best golf in the region. The holes are lined with mature Pine, Birch and Oak trees, which can make the course very tough for the errant golfer. The New Course offers a tougher, more rounded test of golf than the Old Course with its long carries from elevated tees, over heathery terrain onto narrow fairways. (New, 6729 yards, par 70. Old, 6627 yards, par 70).
Wentworth West Course was originally designed by Harry Colt and few courses can boast a tournament
history on a par with it. The World Matchplay tournament in particular was televised to a wide audience. There are few more glorious natural settings for golf than this stretch of heathland surrounded by woodland of pine, oak and birch; the vibrant rhododendrons adding a splash of colour. Due to the massive advances in equipment technology a process of modernisation and restoration has been undertaken by long-time Wentworth resident and seven-time World Matchplay champion Ernie Els. Upon completion Ernie Els said, "I honestly think we•ve succeeded in making a great course even better. Hopefully, Harry Colt is up there somewhere and looking down on us with a nod of approval." (7308 yards, Par 73)
Walton Heath is one of the world's most famous clubs. The two world class championship courses have hosted nearly ninety significant amateur and professional championships and events, including five European Opens, The Ryder Cup and most recently the U.S. Open Qualifying. The world•s top players have taken on and enjoyed the challenges of these two outstanding heathland courses for over a century. Walton Heath is less than 20 miles to the south of the centre of London. It is 700ft/213m above sea level, yet it is usually described as an inland links: the drainage is excellent, the turf beautifully crisp, the lies tight, the bunkers deep and encrusted with heather, and the greens firm and swift. The Old Course (7462 yards, Par 72) is ranked in the world's top 100 golf courses. The New Course (7026 yards, Par 72) shares the same heathland setting and is ranked in the UK's top 50 golf courses.
The Berkshire is one of a group of famous courses laid out amid the extensive trees and heather to the South and West of Windsor Castle. The Berkshire is the youngest of the big three clubs in this superb golfing country, having been founded in 1928, 17 years after Sunningdale and 4 years after Wentworth. The two courses, Red and Blue, were both laid out in 1928 by the Herbert Fowler, who also designed Walton Heath, and Cruden Bay. He had a special talent for designing courses of great natural beauty which blend into their landscape and surroundings. The Berkshire courses are considered by some to be the finest examples of his follow-the•land style. A tribute to his skill is that very few, and only minor alterations have been made to his original design. He had the perfect natural materials, with heather, trees, slopes and streams, and his talent has meant that Nature and man have combined to fashion two courses which are both highly picturesque and offer an exacting, but fair challenge to golfers of all levels. The Red Course (6452 yards, Par 72) features in 'The Top 100 Courses in the World', issued by Golf World Magazine. The Blue Course (6358 yards, Par 71) is not as highly ranked as the Red in the top 100 lists, however members will often say that it is the tougher of the two courses to score on.
