London for Entertainment

London "it's entertainment"
London does not just depend on impressive historic buildings for its greatness, it is a living, changing, culturally rich and stimulating city. London’s theatre is legendary, visitors want to sample it but few realize that there are more than 100 theatres staging musicals and plays. Many people will know that they want to visit the British Museum or Victoria and Albert Museum, but there are some 300 other museums to choose from plus a myriad of commercial art galleries that make London the world center of the art trade.

Many of the historic buildings are well known like St Paul’s, Big Ben and the Tower of London, but there are almost 17,000 protected historic buildings tucked into every corner of the city. You can now visit Buckingham Palace, the Queens residence, however there are six other palaces you can see in the city of which Hampton Court Palace offers most to visitors. The streets are always lively; Covent Garden is a center for street entertainers, Oxford Street for shopping and Harrods vast store in Kensington. There are 344 street markets and centers for antiques and books and other specialties. When you need sustenance there are 6,000 restaurants serving a wide variety of food and 5,000 pubs. When you simply want to relax a fine park will never be far away.

Golf Courses

(all within 25 miles of West London)

Walton Heath — The Old Course was opened in 1904 with an exhibition match between Harry Vardon, James Braid, the newly appointed professional, and J.H. Taylor - the great Triumvirate who dominated golf for some 20 years before the Great War. Waltham Heath is considered by many to be the toughest inland course in Britain and one of the finest heathland courses. It has often been ranked as one of the top 100 courses in the world. In 1981 it staged the Ryder Cup. 36 holes: Old course 6801 yards par 72, New course, 6659 yards, par 72.

The Berkshire — Here you have two heathland golf courses with splendid tree-lined fairways. The golf is of the highest quality with heather, pine, open heath and many changes of level. There is nothing to choose between the two golf courses, try to play them both. 36 holes; Red course, 6369 yards par 72. Blue course, 6260 yards par 71.

Wentworth — is one of England's best known and top ranked golf courses with the World Match Play Championship held here each year, it has staged many other championships including the Ryder Cup. 54 holes: West course, 6957 yards par 73, East course, 6198 yards par 68, Edinburgh course, 6979 yards par 72.

Sunningdale — Normally ranked in the top 3 inland courses in Britain, there are two excellent courses the Old that dates to 1900 and the New created in 1923. It is a heathland course with glorious forests of conifer and pine with heather, bracken and gorse bordering each fairway. Old Course 6341 yards par 70. New course, 6433 yards par 71.

Moor Park — The golf courses are built in superb parkland surrounding a manor house that dates to 1678. This is now the clubhouse and you will travel far to see a more stately 19th. The high course is unusual for a parkland course in that it is very hilly and has some tough and interesting holes. 36 holes High Course 6713 yards par 72. West course, 5815 yards par 69.

Woking — The club was founded in 1893 and was the first of many heather and fir golf courses built in the sandy part of Surrey. The golf course has not changed much from the original design. Although not long the bunkering is often tight and close to the edges of the green. 18 holes, 6340 yards, par 70.
